Incentive & Encouragement Award |
Be ready for gear check at 8:45am for a 9am start.
Next Muster - Sunday 3rd July )
When arriving at Pony Club for the first time please introduce yourself to the chief instructor, Pete Dumont to discuss which group you'll be riding with.
Respect should always be given to the instructor or sports master in attendance. They are all volunteers & are there to help you &/or your children with their riding. We have 3 amazing people who have been trained to be instructors, Pete Dumont, Keith Humpreys & Joy Ringrose. Each one has a unique gift & a huge resource of knowledge in their chosen field. At no time are instructors to be interrupted or contradicted during a lesson, this includes visiting instructors. If you have a question or problem see a committee member or the chief instructor at an appropriate time, eg morning tea or lunch break & they will do there best to solve your problem.
Setting up gear for the day will happen at approximately 8:15am & is the responsibility of all those who wish to participate in the day. NO INSTRUCTOR SHOULD HAVE TO DO THIS JOB, THEY WILL BE VOLUNTEERING THEIR TIME ALL MORNING.
Musters currently commence with a ‘gear check’ at 8.45am, for a 9am start. All riders assemble in their riding groups in the Main Arena. Groups will rotate between those Instructors present. The morning sessions will involve flatwork, grid work & jumping exercises. There will be 2 sessions of approximately 1 hour each, before a 15 minute break at 11am for morning tea.
During morning tea horses should be tied up safely and made comfortable. If you're unsure of the correct length or knots to use when tying up please ask your instructors. Please ensure that you bring your own water buckets. Exercise boots should be removed during breaks as they retain heat on the horse’s legs.
There will be a further session after morning tea before breaking for lunch at approximately 12.15 – 1pm.
Jumping will take place after lunch in the afternoon, for those who wish to participate. This allows members who don’t wish to jump (ie young children or inexperienced riders) to leave after lunch or after the meeting should they wish to. Only those who help with setting up & packing up the jumping gear will be allowed to participate in the jumping sessions.
Packing up is also the responsibility of those using the gear. AGAIN, NO INTRUCTOR SHOULD HAVE TO DO THIS JOB.
Blue Polo shirt with club logo, jodhpurs or jeans, approved boots (with smooth or slightly textured sole) (only riders 15 and over are able to wear Thomas Cook/Redwing style boots) and an AS/NZS 3838 or better helmet any colour. Muster shirts are available for sale from our uniform officers. Horse gear must comply with Pony Club regulations.
Riding members will be allocated to a group according to their riding ability with flat work & grid work. Those wishing to jump will be graded again, according to the jumping ability & experience of both the rider & the horse.
Senior members will no doubt listen carefully to the chief instructor's recommendations & then form their own ‘chat’ groups!!
Pony Club provides an opportunity for riders to increase their knowledge and skills about horses and horsemanship through a series of practical & theoretical tests & certificates. These tests start fairly simply with D certificate, the first level which even children as young as 7 can participate in. If you are interested & haven't registered your interest in studying towards a certificate please see a committee member at the next muster.
The idea of these certificates is to encourage members to know more about their horses and learn new skills. The certificates are not compulsory, but highly recommended for members wishing to have their skills recognized. Although only junior and associate members (under 26 years) are able to sit for the tests, senior members are encouraged to participate in the learning of these skills. tests will be arranged to be held towards the end of the year. When members have passed their test they will be presented with a certificate and a badge, which may be sewn onto their Uniforms. These can be placed on Muster Shirts.
